Apr 21 1986 is one of the blackest days in Newcastle history and a glorious day for West Ham United- at the end of the game between the two clubs the scoreboard showed 8-1!!! for West Ham. As if the 7 goals West Ham scored were not enough, they got unexpected assistance from Newcastle defender Glenn Roeder, who by a mishap sent the ball into his team net.

The game hero was with out a doubt Alvin Martin, who scored 3 goals, out of West Ham’s eight. The other five goals were scored by: Ray Stewart, Neil Or, Paul Goddard, Frank McAvennie and of course, Glenn Roeder. Billy Whitehurst was responsible for Newcastle’s one goal.
