The Full Story

06/19/1988- 1988 NBA finals, game 6: Isiah Thomas turns up his engines in the third quarter – after 14 pts, the hops of the Pistons fans came to life, but a wrong move made him sprain his right ankle and it seemed like he couldn’t stand at all. despite the pain, Thomas returned to the game, Limping and hopping on one leg, he added 10 pts that quarter and in the forth quarter led Detroit an inch from victory

The 1988 finals were a bloody battle between Detroit Pistons, the NBA underdogs for the 80s, and the L.A Lakers, the glamorous champions for that decade. The end of that battle, as we all know, was that Thomas phenomenal game (43 pts, 3 reb, 8 ast, 6 stl, 1 blk) wasn’t enough to beat the Lakers in game 6, and his injury made it easier for the Lakers to win game 7.

L.A won the series 4-3 and added another ring to their collection. It took one more year for the Pistons “Bad Boys” to get thier first NBA championship ever.

In another matter – much have been said and written about Isiah Thomas, and much of that was about his shitty (realךy shitty even) performance as the Knicks manager, but no one can say he  wasn’t a true fighter on the court and one of the great players in NBA history.
