5 years later, In Sydney 2000 Olympic games, Edwards won the gold medal. In 2002 He also won the gold in the World Athletics Championship and in Commonwealth Games.

At one point in 2002, Edwards held all the gold medals for the “four majors” (Olympic Games, World Championships, Commonwealth Games and European Championships). In 2003 He retired as one of most most successful medal winning athletes from the UK.
