At the 2008 summer Olympics the name of an American was on everybody’s lips. Michael Phelps has amazed the whole world with his achievements. That Olympics was the event that helped him become one of the most athletes known athletes in the world.

All the Americans that really love sports being real fanatics or just are simple spectators to the Olympic events must surely remember Phelps achievements in the water, the way he broke those record and the way he won those gold medals.

The Olympics had already started and the American team expected a good performance from his swimmers to try and top China in the race between the two countries when we talk about medals. After the American Mark Spitz another American hero was born that day.

After the qualification round, the finals in the swimming events followed. There were many great swimmers at the starting line and the commentators just could not pick one favorite to win the events. The first final of the day was at 200 meters butterfly, one of Phelps favorites. He started his warm and accommodate with the swimming pool by hitting water on his body. After that, he took his position on the lane. You could read his concentration on his face, his composure level was sky-high. He looked like he was made to achieve great things and what things he managed to accomplish at the end of the day.

The race started and he went ahead from the rest of the swimmers since he dived into the water. His movement in the water was magnificent, he looked like he was a dolphin in the ocean on his swimming lane. The race was over before it even really started. Phelps has won the gold medal! He sets a new world record! The crowed goes wild. They chant Phelps name! He must feel like a God from Mount Olympus for a moment. What a performance!

Latter on, Phelps had a new final, this time at 100 butterfly. There was no surprise there, he won the medal and set another gold medal. After that, the 200 meters freestyle and the 200 meters individual medley followed, Phelps wining the gold medals at both events and setting new world records. The people started wondering if he can win any more gold medals and maybe surpass the legend Mark Spitz. Spitz holds the record, achieving to win seven gold medals at only one Olympics.

To every one surprise and to the wonder of a whole world Phelps managed to win the staggering number of eight gold medals at the end of the competition. After the first four gold medals, another 4 followed for Phelps. This time the medals were at the 4X100 Freestyle relay, at the 4X200 freestyle relay, 4X100 medley relay and at the 400 individual medley. Phelps was phenomenal! 8 gold medals and 7 world records at only one Olympics. Astonishing! He transformed from a good swimmer into a national hero and a world record holder in just a few day. What achievements, what a man.
